The Venture group concept was started by Jim Henson and Phil Peddy in 2005. Three groups were set up, one in Headley (still active), one in Grayshott (disbanded in 2012) and one in Haslemere (disbanded 2018). Group 4 was the next to be set up (about 2010) , followed some time later by Focal Point (about 2017). The AV Group has been going since the end of 2005.
The object of the ‘Venture Groups’ is to provide small groups of members with a forum for the exchange of photographic knowledge and to encourage its members to take part in various forms of practical photography.
Each group manages its own venues and meeting dates, and the work of each group is controlled entirely by the members of that group.
Groups normally have up to eight members with a cross section of experience from beginners to advanced workers. This group size is suggested so that members can meet conveniently in one another’s homes. The suggested frequency of meetings is around 4 to 5 times spread over the Club season.
Each year the Venture Groups give a presentation of their work on an arranged Club evening. This normally consists of a mixture of prints, projected images, Audio Visual videos and short talks.
If you would like to join a Venture Group, or to start a new one, please talk to a member of the Committee.
Currently there are five Venture Groups.
