Visit to Sheffield Park

On  Friday 16 October 11 of us went to see the beautiful autumn colours at Sheffield Park. We were not disappointed. The weather was good although a bit more blue sky would have been welcome.

This park is also well worth visiting  earlier in the year for the rhododendrons with their beautiful spring colours.

Some of the autumnal photos we took can be seen here

Photo Walk at Winkworth Arboretum

Eight members met for coffee at Winkworth Arboretum’s tiny cafe on Wednesday 30 October 2019. It was half term (sorry guys, I miscalculated!) and very busy, but the weather was gorgeous and the colours were good, with some flaming maples. I think the colour will still be good for a couple of weeks if we don’t have a gale and lose all the leaves. So if you are thinking of going next week should be good (not half term!)

It was an enjoyable day. Kathleen

Butterfly Outing 24 May 2019

10 members went to Oaken Wood near Chiddingfold on a guided butterfly walk.  Our knowledgeable guide Phil Darley told us what butterflies we could expect to see, and also warned us to be vigilant about ticks which are known to carry Limes Disease in the area.

As is was warm and sunny the butterflies were very skittish, so photographing them was a real challenge.

Here are some of our efforts.

Trip to Borough Market and Southwark Cathedral

Headley Venture Group arranged a trip to Borough Market in London on 10 August 2018. Transport was provided by Candy tours in the form of a mini-bus, and 10 members and a friend came along. It is a bustling  part of London, and the quiet atmosphere of Southwark Cathedral next door made a calming contrast.

Jack Salway’s Garden 29 June 2018

We were invited to visit Jack’s garden again on a beautiful summer’s day. The garden always impresses, and Jack is so welcoming. Thanks again for allowing us to explore your garden with our cameras.

Noar Hill Nature 5 June 2018

Seven members went to Noar Hill on a cool overcast morning. Insects were scarce, flowers were abundant but difficult to photograph in the wind. We had a most enjoyable morning, learnt a few things and had lunch at the Selbourne Arms.

Jack Salway’s garden 15 August 2017

The club visit to this tropical garden was well attended. Jack was most welcoming, allowing us to use his “shed” to make tea and coffee, and to roam around his garden all day. So many of the plants are exotic, growing to a good height in many cases, which gave the garden the feel of a jungle, especially as it was a hot day.  Look at the photos taken by some of the members who visited to get an idea of this  unusual place.
